A former god, he was sent to live life as a mortal when he was given a task to scare away the Sun Birds that had been terrorizing the mortal world. These mischevious sons of the God of the Eastern Heaven were supposed to fly in synchronization, so that only one was over the world at a time. However, they had all flown together, and it was causing unbearable heat. After trying to threaten them away, he had been laughed at, as they thought no one would be foolish enough to incur the wrath of their father. In response to this, he had shot down all of them but one, who had been spared in time by the father. Cursed with mortality and not feeling too bad about it, he became a hero for the mortals, for that act and for future ones.

He was married to a runaway goddess, and lived together happily for many years. However, he was away often protecting the land, and his wife was worried about spending enough time together, as well as the rapidly approaching time of their lost immortality. At her request, Houyi traveled, searching for the Elixir of Immortality. Receiving the last two bottles of it in exchange for building a palace for it's guardian, he left it unattended at home to go kill a new threat to China. His wife drank both, and as a result was taken away to live forever on the moon. Stricken with grief, he was eventually driven to becoming a tyrant, seeking death at the hands of rebellion. He soon had his wish: he was killed by his jealous disciple and several other people who had grown tired with his rule, an ignonimous end. However, from that end, he was uplifted to serve as a god once more, to reside inside the sun.

[attr="class","field"]Houyi has a very flippant, uncaring demeanor, and he always wants to go his own way. He has a strong sense of justice however, which is one of the few things that can rouse him into action, and when he decides something requires his attention, he pursues it relentlessly until it is finished, then returns to languishing by the wayside. This gives him a streak of impulsiveness, best shown when he rose to the Sun Bird's taunts, killing them when they ignored his warning despite merely being told to frighten them off.

Beyond that, though, he enjoys simply practicing with his bow, and takes his talent with it seriously. He enjoys feats of skill, and loves contests, whether with his chosen skill or some other talent. As much as he might not seem like it from the way he acts, he loves meeting new people and seeing new things, his spirit for adventure undulled since he was a hero to ancient China. He also has a passion for architecture, and enjoys seeing both how buildings are made, and thinking of potential improvements. All in all, his desire is to explore, he wants to see everything the sun and moon touch. 

He also has a pronounced melancholy streak that he takes great pains to hide, resulting from being seperated from his wife, Chan'ge, and the foolish actions he had taken after she left. His wish for the Grail is to see her again, and to be able to apologize to her for failing to be the man she had loved in her absense.[

  Banished from the realm of gods and forced to wander the human world, the intense separation from what he had grown used to sparked a rebellious spirit in the former god, that his time as a solitary hunter both before and after that fateful banishment only strengthened.

  Born as a full-blooded god, Houyi was cast down to Earth and made a human. This puts him above the level of divinity that humans who had divine ancestry in their past, the only thing that makes his level within the amount able to be classified on the scale of Heroic Spirits being his intense distaste for the God of the Eastern Heaven, and the events that led to his exile.

  Houyi was known for riding numerous different mounts, from the mundane horse to supernatural forces like clouds or, when he was restored to godhood, his Phoenix. His riding is high enough to qualify him for the Rider class.
  
  
  He has the ability to both command and ride Phantasmal Beasts for mounts, as well as more mundane vehicles and animals.

  Although she has no divine blood in her, Amba was one of the humans known to have underwent the most unforgiving of tapas. Consequently Shikandhini, her ultimate form of fulfillment, was protected by the Gods from her birth.

  Houyi has had many, many lifetimes of experience to hone his knowledge of hunting and combat to a razor's edge. He is limited, however, to his primary opponent's being animals, against a human opponent, his instincts are of less help to him.
  
  A sixth sense born of experience, he gains a heightened ability to judge the correct course of action in battle. Against a Beast-type enemy, his rank is increased to A+

  Houyi has the ability to infuse his arrows with magical strength, giving them far more power than they would have otherwise. However, the limited access he has to supernatural power he was dealt with in his exile reduces the strength he is able to impart.
  
  
  Able to enhance his arrows with explosive strength, but the drain on prana reserves makes it something very inefficient to do without his Master close by.

  The winged bird that was given to Houyi as his mount, to serve him in his station as God of the Sun. A direct descendant of the one Sun Bird that Houyi did not kill, and an extraordinarily powerful beast. It can carry Houyi or his allies without causing them harm from it's flame, while burning his foes in intense heat. In addition, it carries the property of “Being the Sun,” providing light in the sky that negates effects that would distort vision, unless either the skill or the user's Mana is of an equal or higher rank to the Noble Phantasm.

  Houyi's divine bow, a gift from the God of the Eastern Heaven before he undertook his task to scare off the Sun Birds. The bow is crimson red, with pure-white arrows. A shot fired from this is intrinsically unaffected by the force of gravity, traveling however far in a straight line. The white arrows must be charged with prana to gain the effect of the Noble phantasm. When they are, upon striking it's target, the arrow explodes with infused magical energy, causing an explosion that could prompt a supernova. If not used on a star, it simply explodes with enormous force, causing catastrophic damage in a 50 foot radius.
