[attr="class","field"] [attr="class","blackheading"]BACKGROUND Born in a land known as Thrace by an Amazon queen and founder and a god of war was a baby that came out screaming and crying battering battle calls. Legend says her mother Otrera was the only woman who could defuse her temper, and she only had the chance to do it half a dozen times. After her birth she was taken to the Amazon's settlement on the shore of the Black Sea, just north of Greece. Her mother died not long after her birth, in a battle long forgotten and worn on pages of books documenting this time. The Amazons raised her together- she was four years old when she killed her first deer. She was also four when she ate her first deer. At eight she had killed her first man, he was lost deep in the jungles and forest by the shore. They put his body in the sea, and as she watched it float far into the distance, she felt a pang of remorse. Why had she and her sisters killed an innocent man who only asked for pity and help? The remorse was quickly squeezed out of her as she was trained in combat. The young woman learned to hate men with a passion that burned like no other. They were filthy, lying pigs in her mind- tyrants, mother murderers. She vowed never to fall in love with one- she would instead protect the many others who suffered because of these men. Her sister Hippolyta, mother's successor, took her out hunting one day. They had taken two separate routes, when she saw a deer. They were a particularly hard animal to catch, but if you managed it would feed many people. In the silvery winter, this was a blessing. She struck the deer with an arrow and began to skin it, when she heard yet another deer. Steady, aim...fire! But it was no deer. It was the queen, her dear sister. Died of an arrow, much too young to fall. The young woman wept, unsure what to bring to her tribe. It was purely a mistake- she didn't mean it at all- but it was her fault. Her selfishness, her greed for more meat and food killed her sister, and she would never gain their forgiveness. So she brought the body back, told them she had accidentally hit her. Buried the deer. And now she was the queen of the Amazons, leader of dozens of women warriors. But she had lied to every one of them, the guilt and sorrow overcame her. She begged the gods for forgiveness but nothing came of it, only rain. Rain from the southwest. It was an omen from her mother's spirit. She took her sisters to Troy. This is how she would gain forgiveness. She would fight against greedy men. She vowed to kill Achilles, their strongest man, but when it came to it on the battlefield, she took one blow and fell, her skin cooling by the minute. Her name: Penthesilea. That vow was flawed, she realizes it now. She must not ask for forgiveness through death, she must ask for forgiveness through life. "Hippolyta, we will hunt again together soon." "I vow."
[attr="class","field"] [attr="class","redheading"]PERSONALITY Penthesilea, the daughter of war and queen of the amazons; the stupidly brave, the warrior without her right breast, the sister-murderer. They said she fought like a man. "No. I fight like a woman." She replies, scraping the blood off her hair with a comb out of porcupine quills.Prideful- And rightfully so, she thinks. Some would think it a little ironic- she's prideful of her own pride, but others know it's a status symbol. She is viewed and treated as a strong woman, deserving of other's respect because she respects herself and believes in herself- it sets the example for others. Moral- Penthesilea holds herself and everyone to a strict moral code- it is a long and detailed list she has edited for years and years as she has had different sorts of experiences. She follows the code to death- and even more surprising, she expects others to as well. Stubborn- Not really a surprise, is it. She will shatter into a million pieces before she bends at all. Her willpower is seemingly never ending, she will withstand any torture, any questioning, taking multiple secrets to death. She will stand confidently in her own views forever if it means honor. Judgmental- You have one chance. One chance to make an impression, and once you have, her view of you is solid. There is almost nothing you can do to change it. This trait can be helpful at times but can also wound her, as Penthesilea almost refuses to believe anyone would betray her or wrong her once they're allies. Passionate- She will fight for what she believes in, even if it pits her up against an army. Penthesilea has a passion for her views, her morals and her goals- she will go to anything to achieve them. There are certain things in this world that she cares for extremely. No one can say exactly why, but she does. And she cares for them deeply. Reckless- A trait of Penthesilea's that is a darker manifestation of the above. Sometimes she is so angry or secure in her own beliefs that she will prematurely charge into battle. Her fatal flaw, some may say- as it was the flaw that eventually got her killed by Achilles.
