The first leader of the armies of Israel was born Hoshe'a son of Nun, a slave in Egypt. As a boy and young man, he laboured under Pharaoh's unjust rule with resentment but no complaint, constantly pleading his God for deliverance for himself and his people. He would see his prayers answered in the form of Moses, a man carrying such authority that in his youth he nearly thought of him as God Himself.

After heralding the great plagues of Egypt and leading the people to their freedom, Moses found a tireless supporter in Hoshe'a. He followed him up the mountain as far as he dared when the great hero went to commune with God, and every decision he made was agreed to in full by Hoshe'a. When spies were sent in to the Promised Land, Hoshe'a as the representative of his tribe was one of the only two who proposed an invasion against the mighty people there in confidence of the God Moses served. For this, he was permitted to survive during Israel's forty years of wandering when even Moses would never set foot on that land.

During their sojourn to Canaan and then during their four decade long exile, he proved himself a capable military leader against the enemies that sprung up against his people. It was for this reason that Moses named him his successor, giving him the new name Yehoshu'a, "The LORD is salvation". When the weariness of age eventually claimed Moses, it was this newly named man that took up the burden of leading the chosen people of God.

Once the old generation had died off, the now aged Yehoshu'a marched the armies of the living God against those who had claimed the lands of Canaan as theirs in their absence. He had been given the assurance of God that no man would be able to stand against him, and time and time again he found that his faith was rewarded, conquering Jericho, Ai, and any other fortress or city he came across.

However, as he advanced in age the same weariness that afflicted Moses came to assault him, and there was no young Hoshe'a to support this aged man of the Lord. In his commission he had been commanded to completely wipe out the Canaanites, men, women, and children. He believed his Lord was good, and yet as the horrors of war and conquest wore on thoughts of doubt crept in. Would a truly good God demand such pain, such destruction, such screams that kept him awake at night even when they had long fallen silent?

But it was no matter; as the leader of his people and protector of their future there was no place for such things. Hoshe'a son of Nun may have had doubts, but Yehoshu'a the warrior of God would not waver to the right or the left. He suppressed these dark feelings, enforcing a peculiar madness upon himself. Even to his dying day, with the conquest of Canaan still not completed, he exhorted the people of Israel to finish what was started and have no fellowship with these strange and foreign people.

[attr="class","redheading"]PERSONALITY
Calm Surprisingly for a Berserker, Yehoshu'a is not given to meaningless rampages and shows of aggression, at least not outside of combat. Much of the time he radiates a quiet serenity that others usually find quite comforting, and he enjoys being a support to others in times of stress. In fact, if he never opened his mouth at all one might never guess that he is in fact a Berserker.

Insane Unfortunately despite his apparent mild temper Yehoshu'a is a true member of his class. Due to his Madness Enhancement his mind is near constantly filled with either visions of divine beauty or savage horror, and this flows into whenever he speaks. Oftentimes he simply mumbles incoherently, but if he speaks loud enough he can be heard to alternate between his two extremes, often without any warning at all.

Devout Regardless of the state of his mind, Yehoshu'a is a tireless ally and friend. He will never back down or abandon those to whom he has sworn allegiance, whether it is his Lord in heaven or his Master on earth.

Brutal
To his enemies however Yehoshu'a is a nightmare, refusing to allow any mercy or kindness to spill through. It is also important to note that those whom he is at one time allied with but feels no distinct loyalty towards are not safe from this; if his Lord or Master commands him to turn on them, he will do so without a thought.

Wish
Yehoshu'a's wish is to perfectly complete the conquest of Canaan, something he was unable to do to his satisfaction in his lifetime. He suspects that if he were to do that, somehow the doubts that he lived with buried deep within would be lifted.

[attr="class","blackheading"]COMBAT
  • In battle Yehoshu'a is a machine of war and destruction. Though he wears the armour of a well trained soldier, he wields no weapon but his own fists. While he suffers from somewhat limited strength, this is easily overcome with his Noble Phantasm which renders most defenses negligible. Any who trust in their barriers, shields, or protections are in for a rude awakening should Yehoshu'a take the field. He pursues his targets with singleminded determination and savagery, laying on an overwhelming offensive that allows for no retaliation as each blow deals the maximum damage possible. While doing so he will usually be shouting out biblical sounding threats of the most savage nature to his opponent without rest, making use of his Scream of Terror whenever possible to keep the them from being able to escape or fight back.
  • Yehoshu'a's most major weakness lies in his trait Blight of the Aged, which turns every battle he takes part in into a fight against time. While each attack my be unstoppable, as their strength becomes weaker they are less shaking they become and the more likely the enemy will be capable of recovering in time to escape or launch a counteroffensive. Enemies that are quicker than Yehoshu'a are particularly troublesome, as they are capable of avoiding the otherwise devastating damage that he would be capable of inflicting upon them. Enemies that fight at a range are problematic for similar reasons. Additionally, as his fighting style is exceptionally focused, dividing his focus between multiple skilled combatants working together may keep him from operating at peak efficiency.

    ▬ ▬ ▬ ▬ ▬ A
    Fall of Jericho - Blessing of the Holy Conqueror. The concept of "overcoming defenses regardless of might", present throughout Yehoshu'a's military career and most obviously typified in his first major battle in the Promised Land at the city of Jericho. Any form of defense that is of a lower rank than this Noble Phantasm will have its effectiveness reduced to zero. This applies to large fortifications (such as walls, doors and barriers), personal protection (such as shields and armour), magical boundaries, and innate qualities of Servants such as skills, Noble Phantasms, or even the defensive benefit brought on by their Endurance parameter. Even blocks and parries will not decrease effectiveness of attacks; avoiding the attacks outright is the only way to avoid damage.
  • [attr="class","stat"]NOBLE PHANTASM
    ▬ ▬ ▬ ▬ ▬ EX
    O Sun, Stand Still - The Day When God Heeded Man. The God of Israel was known for His great power, and more importantly for the fact that he alone wielded it. While some of his servants were invested with a small measure of His power to use as they wish, in truth almost all recorded miracles of God took place according to his will and time. Yehoshu'a is unique among all His champions in that he was a completely ordinary man invested with no power who specifically made an outrageous request of God first, that the sun be halted in its course and time stand still so that he could finish his battle, and God then chose to act.

    Upon activation, this Noble Phantasm realizes a true Divine Miracle, halting the progress of time completely save for the targets that Yehoshu'a designates. This can only be done during combat, and the effect ends once the enemy is either killed or made completely helpless and taken prisoner. All things which have had their progress of time stopped are immovable and indestructible, as one needs the progress of time to accomplish those things. Yehoshu'a himself can affect his own personal time in more subtle ways, stopping the progress of injury while still being able to move, rending himself invincible and halting the effects of Blight of the Aged for the duration of the Noble Phantasm. However, as has been said of this miracle "there was no day like that before it or after", hence this Noble Phantasm is only usable once, and cannot be extended to a second combat encounter once it has been invoked.

    Sealed due to Madness Enhancement
  • [attr="class","stat"]MAD ENHANCEMENT
    ▬ ▬ ▬ C
    Rank up in all paramenters except Mana and Luck, but in exchange the Servant can no longer think or speak properly. In the case of Yehoshu'a, this manifests as deranged ramblings and thoughts, either taking the form of hymns of praise to a loving God or else detailed and often horrific recountings of his experiences in war.
  • [attr="class","stat"]SCREAM OF TERROR
    ▬ ▬ ▬ C
    The Servant is capable of emitting a scream that can weaken structures and stunning those who hear it that do not possess adequate mental protection.
  • [attr="class","stat"]PRESENCE CONCEALMENT
    ▬ ▬ ▬ C
    The ability to hide one's presence as a Servant. Suitable for spying, however preparations for attack will decrease the effectiveness.
  • [attr="class","stat"]BLIGHT OF THE AGED
    ▬ ▬ ▬ C
    A trait gained by a Heroic Spirit who's accomplishments occurred primarily at an advanced age. This Servant will be summoned with the appearance of someone very age, and during extended combat their physical parameters will deteriorate over time.
