[attr="class","blackheading"]BACKGROUND
So back in Ancient India, there was a king named Pandu, who would become Nakula's kind-of Dad. Cool guy, was second in line, but his elder brother was Blind so he got the cool Kingdom to rule over. Well one day he married this chick named Kunti and everything was dandy: Until once on a hunting trip he accidentally shot this sage and his wife while they were doin' the nasty. The sage was pretty pissed off about getting killed while bangin' his wife so he cursed Pandu that he could never bang either of his wives or he would die. Not only did this suck because he had to be celibate for life, but he had no legitimate heirs so his Kingdom was screwed, right? But wait, I just said this dude was Nakula's dad, how can that be, right? Well chill and I'll explain.

So what Pandu didn't know was that Kunti had been given a boon by another Sage, by the name of Durvasa, so that she could totally bang any god she wanted and have a kid by said God. She'd already done so once before their marriage, which resulted in the baby Karna, but we don't talk about him. Kunti ditched the baby sun demigod so she wouldn't look unfaithful. But now she invoked her boon to give Pandu sons-- Except not really because they were Demigods and not his kids, but as far as the world knew, they were the sons of Pandu, so they were his heirs. None of these kids were Nakula. Nakula came about when she shared this boon with Pandu's second wife, Madri. Madri was Nakula's mom, and gave birth to both him and his brother, Sahadeva, by invoking the Ashwini Kumara's, gods of Medicine and Horsemanship.

And even as a kid, Nakula was totally bangin'. Not like going around bangin' people, but apparently he was -smoking- hot. Like even hotter than his other demigod and all around perfect brothers. People even compared him to Kamdeva, who was legitimately the god of love. Basically they thought he was as hot as a Male Aphrodite, and that's saying something.

Anyway, Nakula was raised with his twin and 3 half brothers together, and they were collectively known as the Pandavas, or Sons of Pandu. They were taught a great myraid of things while growing up on how to rule: Training in religion, science, administration, tactics, strategy, agriculture, the whole shebang. They were also taught how to use a myriad of weapons: Of which, Nakula seemed to favor the sword. This was taken as an odd choice, especially by his mentor Dronacharya, since the favored form of warfare was Archery, and the use of the Lance or the Mace in close quarters. See, they actually knew Swords were more of side-arms than actual weapons for armies in India, but Nakula was just totally ballin' at swordplay so he got away with it.

Any who, so while they were growing up, Nakula was kind of spoiled by his brothers because all of them loved the shit out of him. Not only was he one of their youngest, but he had a natural charisma and charm that caused them all to value him immensely. Even Bhima, who was known for basically being the Hulk and raging out anytime someone even glanced at him weird was brought to heel by Nakula because he was just that cool.

Unfortunately about the time he was eight or nine, Pandu finally could not contain his burning loins and tried to have a romp with Nakula's mom, Madri. This did not go well, and he died from the Sage's curse. Madri was so heartbroken she threw herself on his funeral pyre right after he died, so Nakula lost both his parents within a few days of each other. Swell.

A few years later, King Shalya, Madri's brother and the uncle of Nakula and Sahdeva, invited them over to his kingdom. What was just a conjugal visit quickly escalated when he announced his intentions to make them his heirs. Considering Shalya had kids of his own, Nakula and Sahdeva were pretty confused about this. Turns out Shalya wanted them as his heirs because they were demigods and his own kids, well, weren't. They adamantly refused to move away from the Pandavas and Kunti, their half brothers and adoptive mother, whom truly loved them to be pawns of Shalya. They agreed to be his heirs, but refused to leave the Pandavas, and so went back to the Pandavas.

Nakula ended up sharing a wife with the other Pandavas, due to a technicality in some vows that Arjuna [his elder brother who was the best Archer to live (Except Karna, but once again, we don't talk about him)] took, and so Nakula, along with all 4 of the other Pandavas, married Draupadi and had a kid named Satanika with her. Fortunately they weren't about that Monogamy thing if you couldn't tell, so Nakula also married a princess named Karenmuti and had a kid named Niramitra with her. When his eldest brother, Yudhisthira sent the other Pandavas out to conquer places, Nakula ended up heading west, and got so bloody rich off his conquests he had to send entire herds of Camels back carrying all the gold he got.

There are an innumerable number of tales I could entertain you with between then, and Nakula's death, but instead I'll only cover the important stuff so we're not here forever. Basically the Pandavas had hundreds of cousins called the Kauravas, whom were the sons of Pandu's older brother, and so thought -they- should get to rule, not the Pandavas. There was a lot of animosity between them growing up, which ended up causing the Pandavas to get exiled for about 13 years or so after they lost a game of dice. At the end of their exile, the Pandavas returned, and eventually one thing led to another and the Kurukshetra War went off.

Now, there are a lot of tales and descriptions for the War, so I'll keep it simple. Basically the armies of the Pandavas went up against the armies of the Kauravas, and the Pandavas should have gotten -destroyed-, but luckily for them the Gods liked them way more than their opposition. For the first ten days of the war, Bhishma schooled the Pandavas up and down the field but didn't slay them because he was their maternal great uncle and actually liked them more than the Kauravas. Eventually, the Pandavas had to go and ask Bhisma how they could not get utterly destroyed by him. He told them he couldn't raise his weapons against a female, so they went and found a guy who used to be a female-ish named Shikhandi, and they used him/her to bring down the great Bhisma.

Then they went about getting schooled by Dronacharya, their mentor, who was -also- fighting for the Kauravas despite liking the Pandavas more. Drona had this kickass weapon which none of the Pandavas could counter, and in the end they had to fool him into sending his soul to heaven to look for his son, and leaving himself defenseless in order to hit him with a cheap shot.

Now you might be missing our young hero Nakula at this stage of the game, but have no fear, he actually does something relevant at this part of the war! After Drona's death, Karna, that guy we don't talk about, takes over as Commander of the Kauravas. And Nakula had the honor of going mono e mono with Karna, whom he did not know was his elder brother. And he got -schooled-. He put up a good fight, but Karna thrashed the tar out of Nakula, and only spared his life because Karna had previously sworn to Kunti not to slay any of the Pandavas. However, Nakula had no idea about this and was left wondering why the hell one of his worst enemies had let him off scott free.

A day later, Karna falls to Arjuna due to some Divine Intervention shenanigans, and the truth of his birth comes out. They were understandably pissed off that they had killed their older brother without knowing about it, but could do nothing but press on after that. The rest of the war sorted itself out, finally ending with a duel between Duryodhana, the eldest of the Kauravas, and Bhima, the physically strongest of the Pandavas. In the end Bhima won, and the war ended in favor of the Pandavas. Of course, the night after, the three remaining warriors of the Kauravas snuck into the Pandavas camp and killed everyone except the Pandavas themselves, so it was kind of a moot point. Still, they got the Kingdom.

Yudhisthira was crowned King of the World, and ruled for many years after. There are some more tales that occur after, but I'm already dragging on and you just want this bio to be over, so I'll wrap it up. Basically the Pandavas and their wife Draupadi get tired of ruling and go take a pilgrimage to the Himalayas to ascend to Heaven. Only Yudhisthira makes it there: Everyone else dies on the way up, due to being unable to let go of their pride. For Nakula, it was his pride in his beauty. After all, he was the most fabulous fucker in the world.

[attr="class","redheading"]PERSONALITY

Tall, Dark and Handsome: Knows it, loves it, flaunts it. If Nakula has one fatal flaw it's that he thinks he's the hottest thing that's ever lived-- because according to the time he came from, he was. He's often more consumed just by the idea that he is attractive more than any of the benefits that might come with it. This isn't to say he's not down with adoring babes or a quick romp, but he generally doesn't flaunt his looks just to get laid or attract others: He does it because he's just that proud of how he looks. Similarly, calling him ugly is probably one of the few ways to utterly baffle him. Not anger him, but confuse the shit out of him.

Dharma Before Reason: A personal "failing" of the Pandavas as a whole is their strict adherence to Dharma. That is, they will often oblige their vows and what is "right" even when it is not reasonable or rational. If he makes a vow, you can be damned sure he's going to keep it. Similarly he will very rarely sit idly by and watch something which violates the principles of what is right occur without stepping in.

Obfuscating Stupidity: Due to hanging out with his know-it-all twin Sahdeva in life, who was so wise he knew literally -everything- but was only allowed to speak it in riddles, Nakula got used to playing the dumb twin. However, he is in fact wise beyond measure, but since he was surrounded by so many people whom were in fact even wiser or more respected, he often began to pretend to be far more foolish than he actually was. He retains this behavior as a habit, but is far more intelligent than he might initially seem.

It Amused Me:: Why he's eligible to be in the Grail War: It's fun. Like Cu out of the 5th War, Nakula doesn't have a particular wish he'd like to see realized: He doesn't even particularly care about the Grail. He's hear because fighting is one of the primary pastimes of his life, and if nothing else the experience is enjoyable and amusing.

[attr="class","blackheading"]COMBAT
  • Nakula is trained in all forms of warfare: Archery, Lances, Maces, Axes, the whole nine yards. However he is by far the best at Swordsmanship, so that's often his go-to method of combat. He is a nimble fighter, one who is both agile and powerful in combat, but is unafraid to take blows due to his ability to heal himself rather rapidly. Due to the well rounded abilities of the Saber class, he is not prone to many specific weaknesses in combat, and with his ability to change weapons on the fly he can adapt rather easily to most situations. If anything, an opponent who is insanely specialized at a single form of combat and can pin him into that type of combat, [Such as Karna's superb Archery skills shitting on his day] is Nakula's worst enemy. Not to mention any opponent that renders his weapon of choice, Swords, inefficient.

  • [attr="class","stat"]Divinity
    ▬ ▬ ▬ ▬ ▬ A
    Is the measure of whether one has Divine Spirit aptitude or not. At high levels one is treated as a mixed race of a Divine Spirit, and the level declines when the Heroic Spirit's own rank as a Monster, Demonic Beast raises. It can also decrease due one's dislike for the gods. It also has an effect which reduces special defensive values called "purge defense" in proportion to the Divinity's Rank. As the direct descendant of Gods, the Ashvins, Nakula possesses an A-Rank in Divinity.
  • [attr="class","stat"]Prana Burst
    ▬ ▬ ▬ C
    Is the increase in performance caused by infusing one's weapons and body with magical energy and instantly expelling it. Simply put, recreating the effect of a jet burst by expending large amounts of prana.

    -- Charm to Quell All
    Anti-Unit
    Nakula's ability to endear himself to others and calm them is legendary, capable of stopping even the rampaging Bhima in his fits of rage. This Noble Phantasm requires very little prana, and manifests as an aura around him and through his voice. The effects cause all those who look upon him and hear him to be more susceptible to his words and actions, and causes them to be unwilling to attack or harm him. Additionally it causes them to become extremely protective of him. It also has a unique capability of temporarily dispelling mad enhancement, causing those who suffer from it to regain their sanity while under it's effects, but also lose the stat benefits it provides. Also provides a passive effect upon those who look at him similar to Mystic Eyes of Charm or Mystic Face.
  • [attr="class","stat"]Jayasena

    -- Master of Horses
    Support
    Nakula is a master of horses, [And camels and elephants to a lesser degree] and any he touches instantly become a steed worthy of being called a low rank Noble Phantasm. This effect works specifically upon horses, but is capable of upgrading other mounts, both modern or otherwise, to a level where they might still be considered "the pinnacle of their condition." If this effect comes into contact with a mount that is already a Noble Phantasm, it does nothing-- Unless it's a horse. Capable of mastering almost any horse, Nakula can ride any Horse steed, so long as it is not a Phantasmal Beast, regardless of rank. He can even take possession of Noble Phantasm mounts this way, but generally speaking it's kind of hard to tame a horse when the guy riding it is trying to stab you in the face.

    ▬ ▬ ▬  C+
    -- Blessing of the Ashvins
    Support
    Nakula excelled at the arts of Ayurveda, or healing, due to his patronage as the son of the Gods of Medicine. This ability has been reflected in his life as a Servant as the ability to heal others with his prana. Combined with his prana burst skill, he can simply wash his prana over or into others to heal their wounds and restore vitality and stamina to them. Even major wounds can be healed with enough prana applied. This is not an activated ability, but is a passive effect that warps the nature his prana takes when used upon his allies. His healing abilities were so potent that those healed by him supposedly felt even better than before their injuries: As such, those healed by Nakula gain a boost (+) to all stats besides luck.

    The real effect of the Noble Phantasm comes into play when Nakula himself is harmed. During the Kurukshetra war, Nakula was pierced with innumerable astras and divine weapons and emerged virtually unharmed. This was due to the patronage of his fathers, whom also grant Nakula the ability to heal himself of almost any and all injury so long as it is not decidedly fatal. This ability also activates automatically upon him being injured, and requires very little prana as it is more on the lines of a "Divine Blessing" than any actual effort on Nakula's part. The stat buff after healing also applies to Nakula, but unlike others can actually stack upon itself as he is further and further injured, to a max of three times.
  • [attr="class","stat"]Divine Astras
    ▬ ▬ ▬ ▬ B++
    -- Armament of Dronacharya
    Anti-Unit/Support
     Nakula was a master of Astra, divine weapons. He was a lover of unusual astra, and so knows incantantions to summon all sorts of weapons: From the ordinary, such as divine swords and arrows, to odd weapons and attacks of any variety. Generally however, this merely allows him to summon divine weapons of any variety to himself to be used in combat. He was not an unparalleled master like Arjuna, Karna, or Dronacharya, so does not know how to wield the stronger astra such as the Brahmastra. Instead the weapons he summons are of a slightly-above-average Noble Phantasm quality, roughly B to B+ rank each. They may be used for a variety of purposes, and each Astra is capable of taking the form of any weapon which Nakula can wield. However, as they are too innumerable to count, only a few have activatable effects that would qualify them for actual Noble Phantasm status: The rest are simply weaponry of all manner of a superb quality.

    {List of Activatable Astra}
    Agneyastra - Weapon can discharge massive amounts of flame, which cannot be extinguished except by supernatural means. Astra of Agni, God of Fire.
    Varunastra - The counter to the Agneyastra, weapon can release torrential amounts of water. Can be used offensively or defensively against flame based attacks to protect from or extinguish them. Astra of Varuna, God of Water.
    Devastra - Capable of releasing Anti-Army levels of destructive force. Astra of the Devas.
    Manavastra - Conceptually capable of "overcoming supernatural defenses", the Manvastra can pierce defensive techniques and barriers to strike the target. Astra of Manu, progenitor of humanity.
    Vayvayastra - Weapon can summon gale forces of wind to lift foes off the ground. Astra of Vayu, God of Air.
    Suryastra - Weapon dazzles and glows with supernatural light, bright as the sun. Capable of dispelling darkness and evaporating entire bodies of water. Astra of Surya, God of the Sun.
    Vajra - Weapon releases lightning which bombards the foe rapidly from a distance or close range. Astra of Indra, God of the Weather and Thunder.
    Mohini - Weapon dispels sorcery or magics that attempt to effect the wielder, the weapon, or those close by. Astra of Mohini, Avatar of Vishnu.
    Twashtar - When struck by the weapon, the foe confuses allies for enemies and vice versa, until the curse wears off or is dispelled. Astra of Twashtar, the great Builder of Heaven.

  • [attr="class","stat"]Asi
    ▬ ▬ ▬ ▬ ▬ EX
    -- The Daevi Khadga [Divine Blade], Protector of Righteousness
    Anti-Demon/Anti-Sword/Anti-Country
    The sword of many names, Asi, Vaiasana, Khadga, Sirgarbha and more; Crafted by Brahma himself and the progenitor sword from which all other swords emerged. When Brahma first created the blade, it took the form of a massive beast, whose mere appearance terrified even the gods. The beast changed shape into the blade, and with that, the first sword was created. The god Rudra used the blade to slay all the Asura who infested the earth, before passing it down to other Devas. The blade changed hands among the Devas many times, before they gave it to Manu, the progenitor of Mankind and first King after the Great Flood. From him the weapon passed down several lineages, before eventually passing down to the hands of Dronacharya, whom himself gave it to Kripacharya. At long last Kripacharya gave the blade to the Pandavas, and Nakula, as the foremost wielder of swords among them, was given the blade to wield.

    Divinely constructed, Asi is a blade which is not of the mortal world. The blade itself is dyed a deep blue, like the sky. It is ornately decorated, with a golden hilt and jeweled pommel, but simple in design. When wielded, Asi carries the conceptual power of being "the first blade." All other sword based Noble Phantasms are treated as copies, with Asi being the ultimate prototype. In a direct clash, all other swords will falter. While they will not essentially be destroyed, it possesses the power to "overwhelm" all other swords. [Specifically swords, not weapons in general.] This is not the effect of the blade, it is merely a side effect of all other blades coming about afterwards. Another kind of side-effect of the blade is it's immense demon-slaying properties, capable of felling even the greatest demon with a single wound..

    The -actual- effect of Asi is widespread destruction, or rather, it actualizes the concept of "achieving victory".  It is said so long as the wielder recalls and speaks the eight names of the blade [Which also doubles as the activation chant "Asi, Vaisasana, Khadga, sharp-edged, difficult of acquisition, Sirgarbha, victory, and protector of righteousness"], they will assuredly find victory. When activated, the blade is filled with energy, and any blow from it comes as if it was swung by the great destroyer Rudra himself, capable of causing Earthquakes, Tsunamies, gale winds, and meteors. [All of which the Sword did cause just by -existing- before it turned into a blade.]

    The energy stored within the blade appears as a red and orange glow, like flame, around the normally sky blue blade. This energy can be discharged directly into foes by striking them with the blade, or released in a massive surge or wave of energy by swinging the blade in an arc. This energy is capable of destroying anything in Creation: Defenses of any material nature will quake in fear, and be obliterated in the wake of the blast. Yes I know, "sword blast, how original." Technically Asi -invented- the destructive sword beams, so chew on that for a bit.

    Due to the destructive power of the sword, it's not used very often. Well, that is to say, the blade itself is used about all the time but it's very rarely activated because A) The amount of destruction it can cause is so massive that using it is extremely dangerous. The amount of collateral damage that even a single use of the blade could cause if it was activated is astronomical, so Nakula uses it only in the most dire of circumstances. B) It costs a massive amount of prana to use, which isn't terribly taxing on Nakula, but could have consequences for the Master. So for everyone's sake, it's best if he never uses the bloody thing.

Thanks for applying to Catharsis! We think your character's great for the site, but there's a few things we'd like to see:

(As a heads up, me and Tanz didn't get a chance to discuss your app, so I'm flying blind with this one on my own. We usually agree on stuff though.)

I think the app is good, everything's well put-together. The first point is my major concern, the other two are just seeking clarifications.

1. Jayasena - Basically, the deal is this (we've had these discussions with a potential El Cid and our current Lü Bu and St. George), if you have a Riding skill, you can have a Rider-style noble phantasm without being a Rider. If you don't, it really denies the Rider servants their uniqueness if you have them. If you want to keep it, I don't either Prana Burst or Mystic Face are necessary--but I also don't think the noble phantasm is that necessary either.

As an aside, normally we'd recommend a reality bubble noble phantasm that would have the chosen steed within it. Given the nature of Jayasena though, it doesn't seem like that'd be useful.

2. Ayurveda - By rank up, do you mean actually a letter up for parameters or just +? Because + is good. Letter up is too much as a passive, in my opinion.

3. Divine Astras - It's cool, but I do want to point out that a B-rank noble phantasm is pretty damn strong. Gae Bolg is Rank B/B+. That being said, it doesn't matter unless Nakula can actually use them. From his combat description, I gather he can obviously swing anything around and make use of passive qualities, but can he use a noble phantasms' activatable powers?

There's no wrong answer; this isn't a balance concern. It's just that if he can whip out something of equivalent power to the Gae Bolg out of the blue and throw out a Striking Death Flight, I want to know.

-- Mystic Face was rolled into Face of Kamdeva [since they basically had the same purpose/basis anyway], and replaced with Riding.

-- Ayurveda has been swapped to a + rather than a letter rank up.

-- Added a note in Divine Astras for clarification. There are a few that are activatable, I've listed them out below the Noble Phantasm now. The rest are just Noble Phantasm-quality weapons that he can swing around, with no actual effects. If B/B+ is too high, I can always bump it down a letter rank.
