[attr="class","field"]Nimue was born as the adventurous daughter of the King of Northumbria. When she was twelve, she met Merlin while out hunting in her father's forest. He fell in love with her then, teaching her some of his magic in exchange for the promise of her love.

They met again when Nimue, an adult now, was kidnapped while hunting a white stag. In the Quest of the White Hart, Merlin sent three knights to kill the stag, fetch her hunting dog, and rescue Nimue. Once she was safely returned, she again promised her love in exchange for the secrets of magic. As a prophet, Merlin knew that she would be the death of him.

It was Merlin that built her a palace in the guise of a lake, and it was Merlin again that told her that the infant Lancelot would become the greatest of all knights. Once she learned all she could from him, Nimue trapped Merlin's soul inside a stone.

She sought out the infant Lancelot after his father's death and his mother's neglect. Raising him as her son in Avalon, she returned to King Arthur's court when Lancelot was ready to become a knight. She would watch over him as a mother for the rest of his life.

Taking over Merlin's position as magus, she gifted Arthuria the sword Excalibur and aided the king and the Knights of the Round Table with her wisdom and magic. She approved of and encouraged King Arthur's distant kingship.

When King Arthur died, his body was brought to Nimue, but she could not heal a corpse, not even in Avalon.

[attr="class","field"]KNOWLEDGE. She's not into magic for the power. What she cares about is knowledge, and it's not that knowledge is power either. It's knowledge for knowledge's sake. It is the intellectual's path of adventure.

FAE. Not actually a fairy, Nimue has lived among them long enough to adopt many of their signature traits. Light-hearted and playful, she does when she wants when she wants. While she's often kind and helpful, she's also sometimes downright malevolent with her sense of humor.

MANIPULATIVE. Everything's just a means to an end, isn't it? Normally, she's quite open and honest, but if there's something to be gained from deception, Nimue doesn't hesitate. Lies, lies, and damn lies in exchange for magic? Doesn't weigh on her conscience any.

REMORSELESS. Yeah, she murdered Merlin too, just because he kinda annoyed her. Whatever. Shit happens. Sometimes shit happens to you, and sometimes shit happens to you because of Nimue. Her lack of guilt is pretty much sociopathic.

POSSESSIVE. It's sometimes said that Nimue was Arthur's downfall, but it was not because she intended it. She genuinely cares for the well-being of her King and the Knights (especially her baby boy Lancelot). Likewise, she cares for her Master and those she finds worthy.

HAUGHTY. Immeasurably wise, Nimue is at least arrogant for a reason. When she makes a judgement call, she's certain that it's a good one. She expects her counsel to be followed. She won't bother imparting any wisdom if she thought she'd be wasting her breath.

WISH. As a magus, there is nothing greater than the desire to reach the Root. She will not be pleased to find out that that's not an option for a servant. Depending on circumstances, she may settle for a secondary wish: a second chance for her King, her son, and the other knights to live a peaceful life.

• Water Affinity - Perhaps the least useful affinity, Nimue's element is water in its liquid form. Her most common spell allows her to simply turn into water, becoming immune to attacks but not immune to pain. Offensively, she can attack with splashes of water that lacerate, or drops of water that strike like bullets. As far as Servants go, it's not very impressive, but she can provide ranged battle support in this fashion.
• Healing - A true healbot, Nimue can effortlessly heal any non-magical wound, disease, poison, or other injury. Magical effects are trickier, but with prana and careful magecraft, she can do dispel the effects of curses and geasa too.
• Magecraft - As Caster, she's an excellent magus. She is accustomed to supporting knights in combat, and she's armed with an arsenal of blessings of power, protection, and valor.
• Vulnerable - Nimue is not a combatant. In most situations, she is more comparable to a extraordinarily powerful Master than she is a Servant. She hasn't the slightest clue how to wield a weapon, and her combat reflexes don't exist. In a straight-up brawl, she will always lose.

  Island of Avalon - The Fairy Kingdom. A reality bubble that conjures up Nimue's kingdom: Avalon. It is a font of magic with the power of numerous leylines; it is a place of healing and creation, where legendary items can be forged and the mortally wounded can recover. It is not a place for combat, but the nine fairy sisters Morgan, Moronoe, Mazoe, Gliten, Glitonea, Gliton, Tyronoe, Thiten and Thiton are present and each a powerful magus.

  Merlin - The Magus in the Stone. A second source of prana, Nimue carries Merlin around with her, his soul sealed within a dark stone that she wears as an amulet. It is possible to converse with Merlin, who has the gift of prophecy, but Nimue never talks to him; he's only a prana battery to her.

  Excalibur - Sword of Promised Victory. Although Nimue technically possesses Excalibur, she is not its proper owner. She can swing it around if she really wants, but she can't use it as a noble phantasm. What she can do is select the owner. In this, she is Kingmaker, not King.

  Nimue can create a "temple" of magic wherever she wishes. This has always been her Lake, but since they are nowhere near England, she will settle for any place that looks defensible.

  She can create enchanted objects that contain spells or other magical effects. If she's within Avalon, she receives a bonus to her Item Construction, allowing her to create C rank or lower Noble Phantasms at a high prana cost.
