Xin descended from the Li family of warriors from Chu, a humble household known for their courage and loyalty to their lords. His great grandfather desired to live peacefully and settled in a remote region in Zhao where he raised his brother's son, Li Mu, Xin's uncle. However, Zhao's countrysides were suffering from the relentless assaults of barbaric tribes. All of Li Mu's friends and family were killed, with the infant Xin being the lone survivor. Xin was raised by another family for a short while before they perished from war, subsequently making Xin a servant, unaware of his noble lineage. Li Mu too believed he had died.

Xin possessed physical prowess even as a child. Using his strength and uncannily sharp instinct, he was able to rise through the ranks from a foot soldier to a general. Accompanying the promotions were increases in his rank in the court, making him a full-fledged noble. Much of history had recognized him to be a noble after the discovery of his relation with Li Mu, failing to cite his younger days when he was a mere servant.

Throughout Xin's military career, he had befriended Qin Shi Huang before he was emperor of China and became his close and most trusted friend. Xin was heavily involved in almost all the campaigns for China's unification but was greatly overshadowed by the Wang household, who were Qin-born citizens, and the Meng whose generations of services granted them favor and renown. His relationship with Li Mu was a cause for slander as Li Mu was viewed as Qin's greatest enemy and was the cause of defeats to generals who were thought to be uneatable, such as General Huan Ji.

Xin's achievements were quickly thrown aside to highlight what the historian Sima Qian referred to as the worst defeat the Qin dynasty suffered, going so far as to labelling Xin as the worst general in history.

It began after the conquest of Zhao and Qin was making plans on taking down its biggest obstacle in unification: the Chu. The Shi Huangdi asked for the advice of General Wang Jian on how to best conquer Chu, in which he replied that exactly 600, 000 men were needed. General Wang Jian was an ambitious man and the emperor did not want to put such military strength in one man. When he asked Xin, Xin said that only 200, 000 would suffice. The Shi Huangdi then entrusted Xin along with General Meng Tian the conquest.

Xin and Tian were met with little resistance and were conquering cities right after another; however, Lord Changping, former general and official of Qin, began a rebellion in one of the castles Xin had already conquered. After suffering from an ambush from behind, Xin's forces was attacked by the bulk of Chu's army, almost wiping out the entire army. This defeat earned the outrage of the king, who had chosen to turn a blind eye for Lord Changping's disappearance out of mercy but had repaid him by killing his people and endangering his closest friend. Normally, such a devastating defeat warranted death penalty, but the Shi Huangdi had forgiven Xin and welcomed him to stay in the court.

Following his defeat in Chu, Xin continued to contribute in the unification and instead of fading out of existence, he steadily rose. Xin's force was responsible for the destruction of the Yan army and was able to capture Prince Dan. Upon learning that the prince had no value to the king, Xin allowed him to escape under the belief that the Shi Huangdi would not desire for harm to come upon the Yan prince either. However, a few days later, Xin later learned that the king of Yan had ordered the execution of Prince Dan and used his head as a peace offering to the Shi Huangdi. Though horrified, Xin was glad that his friend at least honoured a ceasefire, not for what the Yan king had done, but for the sacrifice Prince Dan gave to his country.

After the unification, Xin settled down as a farmer and trained his sons in swordsmanship. Due to the great changes the unification had brought, Xin lost communication with the emperor for several years, unaware of the turmoil he was suffering in the court and in his personal life. Xin became estranged to General Meng Tian because of his inhumane policies in the construction of the Great Wall, although he had eventually forgiven him.

Prior to the emperor's death, Xin was able to speak to Qin Shi Huang - Zheng - one last time, assuring him to have faith in the future generation to complete any of his unfinished tasks. This word of advice came into reality years later, where Xin's descendants became emperors in China's golden age, the Tang Dynasty.

[attr="class","redheading"]PERSONALITY
Xin is a fierce, headstrong, and fearless man but he is far from the arrogant and immature noble history had described him as. He has many years of experience in his arsenal. Unlike the men of nobility, Xin had risen through sweat and blood alone with the additional disadvantage of his lacking educational background. Xin is not a prodigy at war, but he is a powerful warrior who acquires skills and sharpens them for the rest of his life. He may not appear to be the role, but he definitely knows what he's doing when it comes to warfare.

He can be out goofing off with his men, drinking. He can be out alone, training. He can be lying on the grass, thinking. What this behavior suggests is that he is very conscious of the present and his goal. He's able to balance through different activities and do them at the appropriate time without losing sight of what he's after. Though he's involved in fighting, Xin also deals with relationships and bonds. He holds them very dearly that he may be defensive and even antagonistic to outsiders.

Xin is the type to come up with simple but effective plans and think on his feet. He's very physical; there are times that he want to cut loose by going into a brawl, but it won't come to the point of selfishness. He has a strong sense of urgency. Although he may want to do something incredibly stupid, Xin is able to restrain himself to not worsen the situation. At times, when it really calls for it, he may go ballistic for a while. Xin is not a temperamental man, but once he loses his temper, he's prone to explosive anger. He has the tendency to lash out at others, but Xin is quick to apologize, even if it means goes down to his knees and pressing his head on the dirt.

Xin rarely steps out of the line in ordinary situations. He has a very good code of ethics and knows when he's on the right or on the wrong. His ability to think simply and focus on what's before him allows him to see things that people of noble birth wouldn't. Xin is a noble by birth and name, but he's a peasant at heart who understands those like him. He's empathetic and an excellent listener. He allows people to make their own choices while making sure they don't disappoint themselves. He may seem like the type to shout and jump to conclusions, but don't sell him too short. Xin is aware that there are darker, more complicated things in life. He doesn't talk about them, but that doesn't mean he's never had them too.

Xin has a strong sense of camaraderie. Out of all the soldiers and subjects Qin Shi Huang's army has, Xin is the only person who does not follow him out of loyalty, but friendship. And to Xin, a friend is no different than a family, even if that friend was the most powerful man under the heavens.

[attr="class","blackheading"]COMBAT
  • One of Caster of Black's familiars. Without Caster's prana, he would return to clay and be vulnerable.
  • Everything about Xin - clothes, weapons, hair - is a Noble Phantasm. The inanimate materials are linked to him spiritually, allowing the prana from Caster to flow into them and give them their physical properties. They can't be destroyed by ordinary weapons and methods.
  • He can wield all sorts of weapons with above average skill. Swords, spears, javelins, bows. Xin also posses a shield.
  • Also has the ability to fight astride a Terracotta warhorse from Caster's Bingmayong.

  • [attr="class","stat"]NOBLE PHANTASM
    ▬ ▬ ▬ C
    The Forgotten General - Curse of History. His legend cursed by the slander of historians, Xin became unable to posses any phantasm save for this. His parameters would appear "E" to allies and opponents and information on Xin (tangible or intangible) would gradually be subconsciously forgotten (ie. it could be recalled if probed deeply, but most would forget it like a misplaced key.) Only those who knew Xin in his past life would not be affected by this.
  • [attr="class","stat"]BATTLE CONTINUATION
    ▬ ▬ ▬ ▬ B
    He fell and rose again. He started from the lowest and reached the highest. Xin can keep on fighting. It would take more than grievous wounds to take him down and keep him from coming back.
  • [attr="class","stat"]EYE OF THE MIND
    ▬ ▬ ▬ C
    Xin processes experience through instinct, similarly honed by the warriors of the Li family. The more he's fought the same enemy, the better he is able to perceive their movement.
  • [attr="class","stat"]THE HONOR OF THE BATTERED
    ▬ ▬ ▬ C
    Defeat is far from the end for Xin. The damage that he receives would only require half the mana necessary to heal him.
